Minutes of meeting in GCM & GBM, Endocon 2019, Dethi (14th February 2019)

  • Dr. GN Ramesh, President welcomed the members.

  • The president-elect is Mathew Philip (unopposed). The vice president is Dr. CC Chaubal. The newly elected governing council members for 2019-21 are Dr. B Ramesh (Hyderabad), Dr. Manoj Sahu (Bhubaneshwar) and Dr. Sandeep Nijhawan (Jaipur). Dr Roy Mukkuda. Cochin and Dr. Shaheena Parveen, Srinagar were nominated as Co-opted members for next one year.

  • The president-elect is Mathew Philip (unopposed). The vice president is Dr. CC Chaubal.   • The current election process conducted by post (nominations & postal ballot) is time-consuming. expensive, not user friendly and has suboptimal participation from members. There were a total of 97 casted for current elections. It was decided to be conduct the “SGEI elections” online from next lime. The honorary secretary would explore the options.

  • A drive to increase society membership should be encouraged. A total of 20 new members were added to the current list. President proposed a slogan of “2020 by 2020". To improve the membership drive. it was suggested to go online for SGEI membership form submission along with an online payment facility direct to the society bank account or via a gateway at the website to deposit a one-time membership fee. The secretary will explore the possibility of introducing this soon.

  • The society orations during 19th Endocon 2019, Delhi were lo delivered by Dr. GN Ramesh (Presidential oration). Dr. Nalini Guda, USA (BJ Vakil oration). Dr. Randhir Sud (HG Desai oration). Dr. Praveer Rai (Boston Scientific oration). The oration in memory of Dr. Muralikrishna was discussed. lt was decided to not have in any more named orations in memory of deceased members, than what is already going on.

  • The next Endocon (Endocon 2020) will be not be held. Instead, it will be ‘merged’ with APDW Dec 12-15th 2019 at Kolkata (like ISG and INASL). The subsequent Endocon withheld at Indore in 2021 to be organised by Dr. Ajay Jain, Dr. Sunil Jain.

  • The new initiative of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Technician Training (GETT) training program will be introduced to train the current technicians in a phased manner at regional centers (4 courses at 3 monthly intervals). A group of senior members leads by Dr. Vikram Bhatia, will create the course curriculum and prepare a teaching book. It will be conducted in states lead by local heads along with 4-5 local faculties who are members. The annual fees will be Rs 5,000 per delegate. Olympus, India, and Boston Scientific. India has agreed to support this initiative.

  • Dr. Mahesh Goenka, the editor in chief of the society journal (Journal of Digestive Endoscopy) informed about the discussion with prospective new publisher Thieme, with a possibility of the journal getting indexed soon.

  • It was requested to all members and Governing Council members to help update the membership directory.

  • The meeting ended with vote of thanks by the President.
